Cold Store for Norfolkline, Larkhall – Value: £1.2m (Client: Norfolkline / Architect: Moidart)

This Larkhall facility is a custom built distribution centre comprising of 50,000 sq ft of chilled storage space, serviced by 24 loading bays.  This facility also includes a state of the art cold store, with a 1600 pallet capacity.

The cold store extends over 10,000 sq ft and is a 16m high single storey steel portal framed building with braced gable frames. The insulated panels are positioned on the inside face of the steel columns with the galvanised structural steelwork exposed to the external environment.  The ground bearing floor is a double concrete slab construction with floor insulation sandwiched between slabs.  The top slab is designed to accommodate temperatures of minus 35 degrees celsius and was designed to a high tolerance surface finish to incorporate a laser guide rail for internal racking systems.
